Talisman's Global Community Relations Policy defines standards for engagement with communities including indigenous and tribal communities residing in the areas of our projects. The Policy articulates common principles for our employees and contractors around the world and provides guidance on how we will proceed particularly in areas of weak governance.
The Policy can be seen as an extension of the license to operate and commits the company to strive for a fair an equitable engagement process in dealing with our communities, and includes being able to demonstrate support for the engagement process.
The policy is the result of an extensive engagement process with internal and external stakeholders including experts on the issue of indigenous rights. The policy marks an important stage in the evolution of our commitment to working with communities; the policy was approved by Talisman’s Board of Directors in December 2010.
