We believe that the countries and communities where we live and work should benefit from our operations and that investing in those communities supports our business activities. Our corporate contributions play an important role in risk mitigation, helping to ensure our licence to operate, improving community relations, reducing security risk, assisting in employee recruitment and retention and generating goodwill with home and host governments. We invest in accordance with our Corporate Contribution Guidelines.

All requests for Corporate Contributions must be submitted through the following online application form:

Corporate Contribution Guidelines

In an effort to ensure our corporate contributions are put to their most effective use, we have established clear guidelines.

Talisman provides both financial and non-financial contributions to communities in close proximity to its global operations. We look to create long-lasting strategic partnerships that focus on measurable results. Therefore, it is Talisman’s preference to support focused projects rather than general expenses or galas.

At its head office, Talisman and its employees provide strong support to the United Way of Calgary. As a result, additional support to United Way agencies is limited. Our international offices face different challenges including working in urban and rural locations as well as in developing nations. As a result, requests are evaluated based on the following broad criteria:

  • The fit with the Company’s focus on youth and education;
  • The ability to address the community’s most pressing short- and long-term needs;
  • The past success of the organization in meeting objectives;
  • The degree of stakeholder support including the amount of funding received from other sources
  • The initiative demonstrated in collaborating with other organizations;
  • The financial status and internal controls of the organization;
  • The ratio of administrative expenses to overall project costs; and
  • The extent that the objectives duplicate those of other organizations already receiving Company support.
The annual corporate contributions budget is based on a number of factors including global activity levels and risks and is re-evaluated every year. Requests for inclusion in the next calendar year budget must be submitted online between May 1 and July 1. Responses to these requests will occur every January.

Exclusions

Generally excluded from consideration are:

  • Individuals or teams
  • Religious or political causes
  • Private educational institutions
  • Professional or fraternal societies or conferences
  • Sporting competitions or tournaments

Please note: Approval in one year does not automatically mean funding will be provided in subsequent years. Applications should be submitted annually. Talisman responds only to requests submitted through this online application form. Requests submitted by mail, fax, email or telephone are not considered.
