Before beginning any seismic or exploratory activity, we are required to complete an extensive Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to identify ways to mitigate and prevent environmental impacts.
An EIA includes a description of the project throughout its various stages and environmental baseline data of the proposed work area. Field work for baseline data requires an assessment of the local surroundings, including soil, water and an inventory of flora and fauna. It also forecasts potential impacts and mitigation measures through environmental management plans and community relations plans.
As part of the EIA process, we also prepare a Citizen Participation Plan, which identifies areas directly and indirectly affected by our operations, communities in those areas and citizen participation methods, such as public hearings and programs to train locals as environmental observers.
Once an EIA is completed, it is submitted to the General Bureau of Energy-Related Environmental Affairs for approval. Prior to final approval, Talisman is required to address any of the government’s questions or concerns. The government monitors compliance of environmental and social commitments through a government auditor.
Currently, we are preparing an EIA for the Situche Central Development Project in Block 64.
