Right to Refuse Work
We openly acknowledge that every worker has the right to refuse work where there is reasonable cause to believe that the work cannot be performed safely. Systems are in place to deal positively and effectively with refusal-to-work cases.
Safety Orientation and Training
New hires and contract personnel are subject to safety orientation prior to commencing work. Safety training is mandatory. Specific training requirements are established locally based upon risk assessment of the job site and the work to be routinely performed.
Safe Systems of Work
We implement and insist on safe systems of work at all of our operating sites. At a minimum this encompasses safe work permit systems, isolation and lock-out systems, and task risk assessment.
Written Safe Work Practices
Task criticality analysis, risk assessment, and other tools are used to determine when written safe work practices and/or procedures are warranted. Written practices and procedures are reviewed regularly to ensure that they remain effective.
Personal Protective Equipment
We provide and insist on the proper use of appropriate personal protective equipment in the workplace. Basic requirements (hardhat, protective footwear and safety glasses) are universal. Additional requirements are stipulated based on risk assessment.
Planned Inspections
Our facilities, equipment, and worksites are subject to regular, structured inspections in order to identify safety and integrity risks and avoid potential losses. Systematic follow-up ensures that significant deficiencies are promptly and properly rectified.
Safety Meetings
Safety meetings are held regularly at all of our sites. These include regularly scheduled group meetings as well as pre-job "toolbox" and "tailgate" meetings. These meetings provide an important communication forum for safety and loss control.
Contractor Requirements and Interfaces
Our expectations for safety and loss control are clearly communicated to our contractors through meetings with contractors' management, explicit guidelines and standards, and the use of formal safety management system interface and bridging arrangements.
Project Safety
We conduct project safety reviews, employing quantitative risk assessment, what-if analysis, hazard and operability studies and other recognized risk management techniques where appropriate. Safety Cases are developed and maintained for our offshore installations. Appropriate safety controls are implemented during project construction and commissioning.
Management of Change
Proposed facility modifications are subject to management of change standards to ensure that integrity, safety and operability are maintained. Thorough risk assessment is a core component of effective change management.
