Hal Kvisle

President & CEO

Hal Kvisle was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Talisman Energy Inc. in September 2012. Mr. Kvisle has worked in the oil and gas industry since 1975 and in the utilities and power industry since 1999. Prior to joining Talisman, Mr. Kvisle was President and CEO of TransCanada for 10 years, President of Fletcher Challenge Energy Canada Inc., and played a leadership role with Dome Petroleum. Mr. Kvisle is a member of the Board of ARC Resources Ltd. and the Bank of Montreal. He also occupies a Board position with Northern Blizzard Resources and is Chairman of The Nature Conservancy of Canada.
Previously, Mr. Kvisle chaired the Board of Governors at Mount Royal University and the Board of the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America. Mr. Kvisle was recognized as Canada’s Outstanding CEO of the Year in 2008. He received the Canadian Business Leader Award in 2009, the Distinguished Business Leader Award in 2010, and the Fraser Institute's T. Patrick Boyle Founder's Award in 2011. He holds a Bachelor of Science with Distinction in Engineering from the University of Alberta, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Calgary.

Paul Blakeley

Executive Vice-President, Asia-Pacific

Paul Blakeley joined Talisman Energy (UK) Limited in 1994 as Manager, Operations, becoming Talisman’s senior representative and Vice-President, North Sea in 1998. In January 2006, Mr. Blakeley was appointed Vice-President, Southeast Asia, based in Kuala Lumpur. In April that same year, he accepted the position of Executive Vice-President, International Operations (East), which was renamed Asia-Pacific in 2013. The area comprises Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, Vietnam, and Papua New Guinea, as well as our non-operated assets in Algeria. Under Mr. Blakeley’s leadership, the company has added significant assets in Southeast Asia over the past three years.
Mr. Blakeley is a past Chairman of the UK industry-wide Step Change in Safety programme, was Co-Chair of the Industry Leadership Team, Vice-President of the Board of the UK Offshore Operators Association, and a past member of PILOT (the joint UK government and industry task force). He was awarded the Order of the British Empire for his services to the oil and gas industry in Her Majesty’s Birthday Honours List of June 2002. Born in the UK, Mr. Blakeley received his Bachelor of Science degree (Honours) in Geology from the University of London in 1975. He worked for Shell, Sun Oil, and Atlantic Richfield (ARCO) prior to joining Talisman.

Richard Herbert

Executive Vice-President, Exploration and Development

Richard Herbert leads the Exploration and Development team, which provides technical advice, support, and assurance in exploration, field development, drilling, completions, reservoir engineering, and reserves determination. Before joining Talisman in March 2009, Mr. Herbert was a member of the TNK-BP Management Board and Executive Vice-President, Technology, based in Moscow, Russian Federation. Mr. Herbert’s career started with Phillips Petroleum in 1980. He moved to BP in 1984, before joining TNK-BP in 2003.
His extensive global experience includes working as a development geologist in West Africa; an exploration geologist on projects in Southeast Asia, Western Europe, and North Africa; an exploration manager and team leader for ventures in Venezuela, Mexico, Colombia, and Angola; a performance unit leader for the Wytch Farm oilfield in the UK; and Vice-President, Exploration at TNK-BP. Mr. Herbert holds a First-Class Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from the University of Bristol.

Robert Rooney

Executive Vice-President, Legal and General Counsel

Robert (Bob) Rooney is responsible for Talisman’s legal, internal audit, corporate security, corporate affairs, and government relations functions. Mr. Rooney has substantial experience in mergers and acquisitions, international energy transactions, joint ventures, financings, governance, and corporate reorganizations. In addition, he has served as a director of several public and private corporations, and has presented numerous papers on energy law and transactions. Mr. Rooney has been rated by Lexpert as one of Canada’s leading corporate commercial lawyers, by Chambers Global and Who's Who as one of the world’s leading energy transactional lawyers, and by In Brief as an energy specialist.
Until November 2005, Mr. Rooney was a partner with Bennett Jones LLP where he was a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and co-leader of their Energy & Natural Resources Practice Group. In February 2012, he was appointed to the Queen’s Counsel – a mark of distinction to honour outstanding contributions to the legal profession and the community. Mr. Rooney attended the University of Calgary and earned an LLB from the University of Western Ontario. He is an alumnus of the Alberta Alpine Ski Team and the Canadian Alpine Ski Team.

Paul Smith

Executive Vice-President, North America

Paul Smith is responsible for the Talisman’s North American portfolio, with accountability for exploration, development, operations, and business development. Mr. Smith started his career at BP in Aberdeen in 1993, where he held positions of increasing responsibility in various international locations. He served as Vice-President and Director, Upstream Projects, and later as CFO for BP’s Trinidad operations, helping to deliver the world’s largest offshore gas pipeline and develop a strategic framework for gas expansion. He also served as a business unit leader in the North Sea and as Upstream Vice-President for TNK-BP, where he was responsible for West Siberia operations.
Mr. Smith has an established track record in the upstream business, with commercial, operational, project management, and strategic experience. He received a First-Class Honours Bachelor of Science degree from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. Mr. Smith is a member of the fund development committee at the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation and sits on the Board of STARS – a non-profit organization.

Paul Warwick

Executive Vice-President, Europe-Atlantic

Paul Warwick joined Talisman in June 2012 as Executive Vice-President, International Operations (West), which was renamed Europe-Atlantic in 2013. His role includes responsibility for exploration, development, production, and business development in the UK, Norway, Colombia, and the Kurdistan region of Northern Iraq. In addition, Mr. Warwick leads Talisman’s businesses in Peru and Poland as well as Talisman’s global projects, health, safety, environment and operational assurance activities.
Mr. Warwick is Talisman’s lead Board and Executive Committee member for the Talisman Sinopec Energy UK Limited joint venture. Mr. Warwick is a chartered engineer with a Master of Science degree from the Cranfield Institute of Technology in the UK. He has more than 40 years of industry experience working in the UK, Norway, Trinidad, Nigeria, Indonesia, and Qatar.

Helen Wesley

Executive Vice-President, Corporate Services

Helen Wesley has nearly 20 years of experience in the international oil and gas industry. Ms. Wesley joined Talisman in 2010 in the role of Executive Vice-President, Corporate Services, reporting to the President and CEO. Her responsibilities include global oversight for human resources, supply chain management, business services, corporate communications, and information technology. Prior to joining Talisman, Ms. Wesley was Vice-President and Treasurer for Suncor Energy Inc. following the merger with Petro-Canada. During her 10 years with Petro-Canada, Ms. Wesley served in a variety of senior strategic and operational leadership positions, including Vice-President, Finance, International and Offshore, based in London, England.
She honed her supply chain management and investor relations skills at NOVA Chemicals in several roles, which took her from Calgary to Pittsburgh. Ms. Wesley earned her Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing degree from the University of Calgary in 1991, and her Master of Business Administration in International Business from Boston’s Bentley College in 1993. She also received her Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 1998. In 2012, Ms. Wesley was named the 2012 Management Alumni Excellence (MAX) award recipient by the University of Calgary Haskayne School of Business.
